The Challenge

A multinational fashion retailer with operations across the UK and Europe was planning a major initiative to expand quickly across the US. With a goal of opening multiple stores in a short period of time across multiple cities, they needed strong leaders in place who could manage and drive change to optimize performance in a dynamic and competitive market.

The Objective

They realized building strong leadership skills in their store managers would be a critical contributor to the success of this expansion, short and long-term. The objective was to empower the store managers by building agility, adaptability, and communication skills to equip them to manage new people, drive change and respond effectively as circumstances evolve.

The Solution

In close collaboration with the HR business unit and leadership team, we built an impactful and experiential five-day program and created materials designed to reflect the company’s strategic goals. Leadership played a visible role in the launch event, signaling strong executive support and inspiring Store Managers to embrace growth, development, and new ways of working.

  • Five days of workshop-based learning – focused on Leading Self, Leading Others, and Leading Change.

  • Engaging learning design – blending reflection, theory, content, and experiential activities to embed knowledge and maintain high engagement.

  • Practical toolkit – providing Store Managers with actionable tools and techniques to apply learning directly in their stores.

  • Pre- and post-workshop 1:1 development sessions to support Line Managers with the integration of key learnings.

  • Action Learning Groups (ALGs) – established and practiced during the program to ensure Store Managers can continue self-directed learning after the workshops.

  • 360° leadership assessments – capturing feedback from Line Managers and team members, combined with ALGs to encourage reflection, collaboration, and peer learning.

  • Ongoing peer learning and activities – following the program to reinforce continuous development and sustain the impact of the program over time.

This comprehensive approach ensured Store Managers were empowered to lead confidently, drive change, and contribute to the long-term success of the organization.

The Outcomes

The program was very successful in the first wave of expansion and has now been run over several years, in person and virtually during COVID, to continue to help facilitate their ongoing expansion. By continuing the initiative, the company ensures every Store Manager has the tools to deliver measurable impact and support the organization’s long-term success.
